John Lennon Memorial: 30 Years

John Winston Ono Lennon, MBE (9 October 1940 – 8 December 1980) was an English musician and singer-songwriter who rose to worldwide fame as one of the founding members of The Beatles and, with Paul McCartney, formed one of the most successful songwriting partnerships of the 20th century. Born and raised in Liverpool, Lennon became involved as a teenager in the skiffle craze; his first band, The Quarrymen, evolved into The Beatles in 1960. As the group disintegrated towards the end of the decade, Lennon embarked on a solo career that would produce the critically acclaimed albums John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, and iconic songs such as "Give Peace a Chance" and "Imagine". Lennon disengaged himself from the music business in 1975 to devote time to his family, but reemerged in 1980 with a new album, Double Fantasy. He was murdered three weeks after its release.
"All we are saying,
Is give Peace a chance..." John Lennon.

Childrens Week Australia

What is Children's Week

Children's Week is an annual event celebrated in Australia during the fourth week in October. In 1996 it was decided to adopt a permanent theme: "A Caring World Shares" as a reflection of Children's Week.

A diverse range of events and activities are organised at National, State and Local levels.

These focus the attention of the wider community on children, their needs and achievements.

Children's Week celebrates the right of children to enjoy childhood. It is also a time for children to demonstrate their talents, skills and abilities.

Thousands of children and their families around the country are involved in activities and events during "The Week" through the participation of schools, playgroups, childcare, kindergartens, cultural groups, libraries, departments and community groups.

Designated by the nations of the world, Universal Children's Day calls society to a greater response to the plight of many millions of children around the world who are denied the basic necessities of a happy childhood and the education to develop their capacities.

Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival- Mooncake Festival

The Moon Festival
The Chinese Moon Festival is on the 15th of the 8th lunar month. It's also known as the Mid-autumn Festival. Chinese culture is deeply imbedded in traditional festivals. The Moon Festival is one of the most important traditional events for the Chinese.
The Moon Festival is full of legendary stories. Legend says that Chang Er flew to the moon, where she has lived ever since. You might see her dancing on the moon during the Moon Festival. The Moon Festival is also an occasion for family reunions. When the full moon rises, families get together to watch the full moon, eat moon cakes, and sing moon poems.
The moon cake is the food for the Moon Festival. The Chinese eat the moon cake at night with the full moon in the sky.
Hope the Moon Festival brings you happiness.

AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL TREE DAY

Australia’s largest community tree planting event is on Sunday 1 August when we plant a million new native trees and shrubs across Australia.
If you’re looking for a simple and lasting way to make a positive contribution to your community, then get involved in National Tree Day.
All you need is a positive attitude and a willingness to get your hands dirty.
National Tree Day brings communities together to learn, grow and care for Australia’s unique environment and is a great opportunity for families
to experience the wonders of our natural surroundings.
A million trees are capable of absorbing the same amount of greenhouse gas emissions that are generated from the annual lighting needs of approximately
348,000 households. Over its lifetime a single tree will absorb over 268 kilograms of greenhouse gas emissions. The average Australian home’s
annual lighting needs will emit 770 kilograms of greenhouse gases. So get involved this National Tree Day and help create a cleaner and healthier
environmental for the next generation.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

World Environment Day: 5th June 2010 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The theme of this year’s World Environment Day, “Many Species. One Planet. One Future”, echoes the call of the International Year of Biodiversity to stop the mass extinction and raise awareness about the vital importance of the millions of species that inhabit our planet’s soils, forests, oceans, coral reefs and mountains. Our health, well-being and sustainable future depend on this intricate, delicate web of ecosystems and life.

EUROVISION 2010: Harel Skaat "Milim"

EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2010
Israel's Entry: Harel Skaat sings "Milim" (Words)

**********************************

Here is the English Translation
*****************************

"WORDS"

I can feel again how it all began
But this is the end, I feel tonight
I closed my eye, a silent cry
To see you in the dim, the dim of light

With my fears, these bloody tears
Are burning me inside
But I will sing you one more song
At least, I know that I have tried

You left me only words, and in these words I hide
A story that is heard without you by my side
You left me only words till they fade away
How I pray to have those words today

This empty room, the feel of gloom
Just take it all, it’s all for you
Our battle ends at break of dawn
But what is left for me when you are gone?

You left me only words, and in these words I hide
A story that is heard without you by my side
You left me only words till they fade away
How I pray to have those words today

You left me only words, and in these words I hide
Empty room of stories without you by my side
You left me only words till they fade away
How I pray to have those words today

And I get cold inside when I’m reminded
Of where you are tonight, gleaming in his light
I need you even though all these words that you left me
Are now for him to know

You left me only words, and in these words I hide
A story that is heard without you by my side
You left me only words till they fade away
How I pray to have those words today

You left me only words till they fade away
How I pray to have those words today

Mini Cyclone hits our City

Our city experienced a mini cyclone on the afternoon of 6th March 2010.

After a warm and sunny morning, the storm clouds rolled in during the early afternoon.

The rain poured down and then came the large hailstones.

Here is a picture of one of the hailstones which fell in our area displayed alongside a ruler for size comparison and another picture showing a blue light shining through the hailstone in order to give a beautiful effect.
