A Walk in MiM's Day Garden

Take a leisurely stroll through my Summer Day Garden and enjoy the sights and sounds of Nature.

DebV:  Beautiful.. I love watching the video! Thank you

Doreen:  What a wonderful garden  all the work and love that have gone into it. I tawt I taw a puddy tat did I?  Wow such a green thumb. I watched your lovely video and just loved it. 'I tawt I saw a Puddy Tat" laying by a container kind of hiding...if so I bet he/she loves that garden. I bet you really enjoy that garden the sounds were just awesome. Shadow kept looking around for the birds while I played it. The water sound was so relaxing. I could picture finding a nice cozy place and hiding there all day to meditate or read.

Thanks so much for sharing a bit of your life....and hard work.

Ursula:  That is quite large area to care for. I loved the sounds of running water and the birds singing.

The little black and white cat sleeping by the flowerpot was precious as well.

here in ohio usa everything is covered in snow at the moment.

Susan:  I'll have to watch your video whenever I need to de-stress. I could feel the stress melting away as I walked with you along the garden paths.

Barbara:  Mim I finally got a chance to go see your garden and it is so charming!  I loved seeing it in the daylight.  It looks like you have a lot of shade areas for the heat you have been having!  I could see you sitting out there with an iced tea.....What a wonderful stroll thru the paths.

Thank you for sharing it.  After seeing it at night I was hoping you would show us during the day. 

(MiM's reply: the shade has developed over the years as I had planted some Australian Eucalyptus trees on the "hot side" of the house many years ago. So now they provide shade, falling leaves all year round, peeling bark in the Summer which I crush and use for mulch, and a habitat for native birds, possums and fruit bats!!!)

Rosie:Your Day Garden is lovely! You have the touch, that's for sure. Gorgeous...you have done an awesome job. A lot of work went into it. Creative and lovely!! Thanks for sharing.

Our Story in One Minute

 This thrilling video culls together multiple teasing snippets in an attempt to  tell the story of human existence in a minute  It is also set to music. Briefly depicted, from start to finish, is an artistic animation of the Big Bang, a trip across the early universe, the formation of the Earth and Moon, the emergence of multi-celled life and plants, the rise of reptiles and dinosaurs, a devastating meteor strike, the rise of mammals and humans, and finally the rise of modern civilization. The minute movie ends with a flyover of the modern skyscraper and a human standing atop a snow covered mountain. The video is the latest from the Symphony of Science project.

Solar Eclipse 14th November 2012

A Solar Eclipse occurred on 14th November 2012.

A total eclipse was visible in Queensland in Northern Australia.

In my part of Australia, a partial eclipse was visible.

There are two equinoxes every year – in September and March – when the sun shines directly on the equator and the length of day and night is nearly equal. Seasons are opposite on either side of the equator, so the equinox in September is also known as the "autumnal (fall) equinox" in the northern hemisphere. However, in the southern hemisphere, it's known as the "spring (vernal) equinox".

Why is it called equinox?

On the equinox, night and day are nearly exactly the same length – 12 hours – all over the world. This is the reason it's called an "equinox", derived from Latin, meaning "equal night".

However, even if this is widely accepted, it isn't entirely true. In reality equinoxes don't have exactly 12 hours of daylight

The September equinox occurs the moment the sun crosses the celestial equator – the imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator – from north to south.

This happens either on September 22, 23, or 24 every year. On any other day of the year, the Earth's axis tilts a little away from or towards the Sun. But on the two equinoxes, the Earth's axis tilts neither away from nor towards the Sun.

BLUE MOON 31st August 2012

A blue-coloured moon is rare. 

Folklore has defined two different types of Blue Moons. 

A Blue Moon can be the second full moon in a month. 

It can be the third of four full moons in a season. 

The full moon of August 31, 2012 will be considered a 

Blue Moon.

It is now Spring time in the Southern Hemisphere

and Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere.

Pop Star, Professor of Physics, and TV presenter, Brian Cox, was recently in Australia filming his new series for the BBC 'Wonders of Life'. Catalyst caught up with him to discuss his experiences communicating science, Cern's Large Hadron Collider, and what it's like being a pop star and a scientist.

NASA has released mesmerising footage of the earth shot by astronauts aboard the International Space Station.

The four-minute video captures the bright lights emanating from the cities of the world and the eerie green glow of the aurora

australis above the atmosphere.

Shot 400km above the earth, the astronauts of Expedition 30 also spotted flashing purple thunderstorms over Africa and the

stunning Comet Lovejoy.

Though the footage consists of still images, time-lapse photography creates the impression of movement.

It was shot over the last five months.

The video is set to the song 'Walking in the Air' by Howard Blake.

The International Space Station has been in continual operation since 1998.

Australian Queensland Floods Jan. 2011

As a result of torrential tropical Summer rains, much of Queensland has been flooded.

There is devastation in many Towns and even in the central business district of Brisbane where

the Brisbane River broke its banks and the city's dam overflowed.

This disaster has caused loss of lives, inundation of homes and businesses with flood waters,

loss of livestock, farms, crops, vehicles and boats, household items and has caused much grief across the whole country of Australia.

However the Queensland people are strong and resolve not lose their Spirit and everyone is helping each other to their best ability.

Enormous credit goes to the army, rescue crews, police, volunteers and

the every-day person who risk their lives to save others.

The cleanup work and rebuilding will be extremely difficult and will take months, even years.

Some properties won't be habitable any more, unfortunately.

There will be the risk of diseases spreading especially that this is a tropical area.

The fall-out from this flood disaster will influence every Australian,

emotionally, psychologically, financially and personally.
